Coming Soon: Hands-On CO2 Transcritical Training for CoolSys Techs
An already robust and multifaceted technician training program at CoolSys is about to take another leap forward with the recent purchase of a Ceptek CO2 transcritical trainer. The machine will enable techs from all across CoolSys to get hands-on experience with a CO2 booster rack that mimics real-world commercial systems, in terms of scale, size and location of components.
With the training unit, students will practice a range of important service operations, such as vacuum, CO2 charge, system optimization, filter change, parameter change, VFD/load adjustment and full commissioning. A unique and proprietary phase-change station© equipped with a wide, two-inch sight glass will enable users to safely demonstrate the various phase changes of CO2 — liquid/gas equilibrium, dry-ice and transcritical.
Ready for Fall Training
Brett Wetzel, manager of Technical Troubleshooting & Training, led CoolSys’s efforts to purchase the trainer from Emerson and is developing and teaching the course that will accompany the hands-on aspect of the training. The unit will be headquartered at the CoolSys training facility in Houston, Texas, to provide a convenient central location for techs traveling from anywhere in the U.S. However, since it is self-contained and mobile, Brett says, there is a possibility of bringing the trainer to other locations in the future.
The machine is expected to be delivered by mid-summer — just in time, Brett says, to get it installed and ready for the start of the CoolSys fall tech training session in October. In the meantime, he will be piloting and testing the extensive, five-day course he has produced to introduce components, specifications, vocabulary, procedures, troubleshooting and best practices. The course will also enhance students’ learning experiences with lab exercises and tests.
Brett extended a special word of thanks to Andre Patenaude at Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions for his partnership with CoolSys throughout the purchase process of the CO2 trainer.
