CRM & Ron’s Join Forces to Strengthen Midwest Operations
In a region where people are known for their strong work ethic and family values, CoolSys Midwest is thriving thanks to two of our flagship brands, CRM and Ron’s Refrigeration.
“Even though we are now part of CoolSys, we still run as a family business. We are all tight — from installers to those in the front office,” says Tim Mancl of Ron’s Refrigeration, whose parents started the company in 1973. “We are in a small town and people know us and our people have worked here for decades,” he adds.
For CRM, who joined the CoolSys family in October 2017, being a part of a larger, national organization represents opportunities for growth. “Our vision for the Midwest region is to expand our market presence. We plan on leveraging our local brand presence and presenting a united CoolSys message to do this,” comments Gary Shmerler, founder and president of CRM.
What was traditionally a competitive relationship is now collaborative. Under CoolSys Midwest, Ron’s and CRM are exploring ways to work together and even share a workforce. For Mike Vega, HR Business Partner for CoolSys Midwest, who previously worked for CRM, he appreciates the new direction. “There’s more potential for support, systems, benefits, career development and growth for everyone,” comments Mike. “Logistically we are in slightly different places, so by working together, we can help our branch of CoolSys grow,” adds Tim.
However, growth is not without its challenges. In the Midwest, like other parts of the country, industry consolidation among supermarkets and foodservice chains and a trend to reduce the number of vendor relationships are shifting the business landscape. “The traditional markets we have served in the past are changing dramatically,” says Gary. “To address the challenge, we hope to benefit from our regional focus, being part of a national organization, our ability to quickly adapt to change and having a flexible workforce.”
“Our people and the people we work for all have a strong Midwest work ethic. There are always opportunities for growth and having the extra resources of Coolsys and CRM makes it easier to convert these to new business,” says Tim. The excitement about what is happening in the Midwest region reaches beyond management to throughout the team. “Associates are asking what’s coming up next and the vibe is good,” comments Mike.
Gary welcomes CoolSys employees from other parts of the country to experience what’s unique about the Midwest region. “Wisconsin is a great place to raise a family. We are common, hard-working folks in the heartland of America,” says Gary. “If anyone wants to come to Wisconsin, our arms are wide open.” “On Wisconsin and Go Pack!” exclaims Gary with pride.
