Fully Vaccinated? We’ve Got Great News for You!

The news we’ve been waiting to hear for the past 14 months has finally arrived: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on May 13 that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no longer need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors or outdoors. (A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their final Covid shot.) While there are a few exceptions, this is a huge step toward getting back to the life we enjoyed before the pandemic. This exciting development has come about, in large part, from the number of Americans who are getting vaccinated and is supported by falling rates of both Covid cases and Covid deaths nationwide. According to the CDC, by May 25, 61.6% of adults in the U.S. (more than 158 million people) age 18 or over had received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine, and 50% (more than 129 million) were fully vaccinated.
The number of young Americans who are vaccinated is sure to rise after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on May 10 that it was authorizing the Pfizer vaccine for people ages 12 to 15. For the time being, the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will continue to be available only for people ages 18 and older.

The CDC’s new guidelines for those who are fully vaccinated is even more incentive to get a Covid vaccine, if you haven’t done so already. Think Before You Unmask
If you’re not yet fully vaccinated, remember that it’s still important to continue following the basic Covid safety precautions: wear a mask, stay at least six feet away from anyone who doesn’t live with you, wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer, and avoid crowded indoor spaces. The CDC has a helpful chart to explain the risk level of certain activities for fully vaccinated people and unvaccinated people. (Spoiler alert: If you’re fully vaccinated, you are free to roam!)
