Refrigeration Apprentice Saves the Day for an Injured Customer
Comic books and movies depict heroes receiving a call for help and racing to the scene. But in real life, heroes are often simply at the right place at the right time to do the right thing. That was the case with our very own CoolSys hero, Brayden Simmons.
On May 9, Brayden, an apprentice 1 — refrigeration in our Wisconsin South Central branch, was doing preventative maintenance with his partner, Matt Powell, at an Aldi store in Baraboo, Wisconsin. In that process, Brayden returned to his work van to retrieve a spray nozzle to clean the unit. It was, so far, a routine procedure on a normal workday — but the situation was about to take a dramatic turn.
Sharp Eyes, Quick Reflexes, Kind Heart
As he headed back, Brayden passed an elderly customer using a walker. The man had, unfortunately, arrived before the store’s opening time and was returning to his car. As Brayden was about to open the store’s sliding glass doors, he noticed — reflected in the glass — that the man had fallen in the parking lot.
Brayden sprang into action, running to the man’s aid. He called 911 as he used a handful of paper towels to control the bleeding from a bad cut on the customer’s head and stayed with him until paramedics arrived. An Aldi employee who had also come to help after witnessing the accident praised Brayden for his quick response and his compassion toward the injured senior.
The entire CoolSys family adds our congratulations to Brayden for going above and beyond to show what our commitment to customer service is all about. Thank you, Brayden!
