Time for Reflection: Self-Assessments Begin January 3
It’s almost 2023, and while we’re already looking ahead to the new year, we will actually start off with a look back at 2022, as the annual Performance Management cycle begins Tuesday, January 3.
The cycle begins with self-assessments. All salaried employees hired before October 1, 2022, can rate their own performance for the 2022 calendar year by entering their self-assessment into the BambooHR system.
“Self-assessments are voluntary, but each employee is encouraged to take the time to complete theirs,” says Chief Human Resources Officer Ann Miller. “Our culture at CoolSys is performance-driven, and measuring our efforts, acknowledging our successes and identifying how, where and when we can improve our performance are critical to our individual professional growth, as well as the growth of the business.”
Why Complete a Self-Assessment?
Although they are not required, self-assessments do impact merit and bonus payments — another reason employees are highly encouraged to participate. Additionally, while they are useful for employees to gauge both their accomplishments and opportunities for improvement, self-assessments also help managers better understand how employees view their own performance.
“Each of us — no matter the role, no matter the responsibilities — benefits from the meaningful feedback an assessment provides,” Ann says. “We all need to hear how we’re doing, what we’ve done well and what we can do better. Assessments can also serve as part of a roadmap to new responsibilities, new challenges and, often, a new position within the company.”
The Self-Assessment Process
Employees will be notified when BambooHR is ready to receive self-assessments, and they must be entered into the system by Friday, January 13. Managers have until January 20 to complete their corresponding evaluations. Employee self-assessments will not be available to managers until they complete their portion of the review.
